Edie Bernhardt, P.T., A.T.R.I.C.

Edie graduated from the University of Vermont in 1974 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. She also holds an A. A. S. Degree in Body Work and Massage from the Community College of Vermont (2002).

Edie is Nationally Certified as an Aquatic Therapist and has had extensive training with John Barnes, P.T. in myofascial release techniques. She has also trained with Aaron Mattes, M.S. R.K.T., L.M.T., for active isolated stretching (AIS) and has been certified as a childbirth educator.

Edie’s professional career has followed a path involving pain management and soft tissue dysfunction. Her special interest in aquatic physical therapy began in 1990 and was supported by attending the National Conference in Aquatic Therapy 11 years. Edie has trained many therapists and clinics in Vermont and continues to teach physical therapy and athletic training students at the University of Vermont. Edie has been the key person in initiating the program of Aquatic Physical Therapy at Physical Therapy Center of Vermont and significantly developed the program at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Specialties for Edie include aquatic physical therapy, myofascial release, orthopedics and spinal rehabilitation.

Edie has been a health care participant at Shake-a-leg Newport. This is an intensive residential program for individuals with spinal cord injuries. This program is offered for 5 weeks in the summer, in Newport, RI.

Her other interest include gardening, kayaking, sewing, cooking and outdoor sports.
